Final Facebook Review

Instead of creating a page I made a Dixie State Women's basketball Facebook page. I did this on accident but it still was worth it.

When I first made this page I wanted to draw in other athletes at the school to support the women's  basketball team. I will posted game times, activities and other community projects that we would do. One of the first things I posted was the players bios. Each players had their own post which consist of their first name, las name,  year, where they are from, position, and hobby. I  did this so they can get to know the players and can know a little information about them before going to a game. I also posted little video clips of some girls playing each other during post season just to change up the posting method. We would do serval community services that I had also posted about also Achievement, birthdays, and motivations quotes.

As the year went on I started to realize that the people that requested to follow the page where older folks. Parents, aunts and uncles from the players families. I was surprise to see this, there are only a few athletes from Dixie that follow the page. I didn't chose to make an advertisement because basketball season is over but next year I plan on making one for the page. Something that I would change to promote my page more is actually getting it out there and talking to athletes at the school and tell them to follow the page. Favor for a favor type of thing. Help us promote our team while we do the same for theres. I feel Dixie athletics don't come together and are separated and every team is in competition to be better then the next team, when in reality we need to support each other and be better then the next University.
There is an Instagram account that our coach is over and it has more success then the Facebook page. If I can get my coach to promote the Facebook page on there that will be perfect. Also they started that page before season even started and I just started this Facebook page during season, so that is one of the reason that our Instagram page is more successful.

Overall I feel as though I didn't do well to promote my page. My end goal was to have many athletes following the page and keeping up with us but that didn't happen. I could had made an advertisement, maybe that could had changed a few things. The page also didn't get many likes on certain post. Next year it will be a new team and I need to figure out if I should erase the old roster and just keep posting a new one? Or erase the old players and post the new ones? Im not sure exactly what I should do, I don't want to make a whole new page so if anyone has ideas please let me know. My goal will remain the same as for next year. I want the team to get more support from not only the athletes but the community. I believe that once we start to win games i can post that online and people will like the post and others will see and maybe want to follow the page. Thats one way I think I can promote the page more.

Automatic Attitudinal Response

When it came down to this recent election I knew that Trump will be in office. I knew this because I believe that the government wouldn't allow a women to be in office because we already made history with an African american being our president. That will be too much for America. I'll be the first to admit that I don't watch the news much because i don't find politics interesting what so ever plus I think no matter what the people want the government is going to do what they think is "best". Every news doesn't tell the truth no matter what the story may be. I see many opinions on social media and I question rather I believe it or not. My mother and grandfather have their own opinions about Trump that they have shared with me. That being said on one of my post that I have wrote about Trump i sound so one sided about him and not ver knowledgable. I have not did my own research about our president but I need too. I need to look up what exactly his goals are for us americans. I don't need to write about how I feel about him if I can't stand up for my own argument.

On the Media: The View of Poverty

On this episode Brooke and Brad talk about how president Trump released his blue print of his budget priorities addressing only enacting spending about thirty percent of the government's money. The allowance of the departments defense homelands security go up while everything else goes down. As for social security, medicare, and medicaid we aren't sure on what Trump wants to do. When new administrations is in office they usually release something called a "skinny budget" which is an outline showing what they believe in that can help America. Something that we should be worried about are the programs that help the poor. Safety net programs such as meal on wheels, school programs that help parents with transportation for their children. This document has not only been criticize by the public and democrats but by their own republican party as well.

Well Informed: The Networked Society

In this video they gathered top thinkers to predict what the world will be like in 2020. They talked about many things that have a possibility of changing but one thing they all agreed on was the technology. What can be done that is technology physical is not economically profitable or humanly acceptable. Just because we know what technology can do it doesn't tell us what the future will be like unless we as human beings "shape it". Vent Cerf designed the internet and it has grown drastically. The internet is fundamentally changing the way we adapt capability in society is to innovate, cultivate and govern. The competency that the internet has, has a huge bliss on human environment. The example that is use in the video is when newspapers use to be delivered on people doorsteps and we use to watch the news on television that was scheduled. Now we can watch/read the news whenever we want. Teachers, Politicians, doctors, etc are all going to head in the direction of being mobile. Technology has changed dramatically throughout the years because of generations that know how to use it. Technology can only grow if we are willing to grow with it.

Well Informed: Racism

Matthew Cooke does a good job explaining the slavery history of the United States. He starts off by saying that blacks weren't the only ones who went through slavery. Whites did also, not because of their skin but simply because a win or a loss of war. A law was passed through that gave whites more privileges to divide their separation from blacks. Blacks were at the bottom and poor whites were placed above them being treated more favorably and were promised to have a better life if they worked hard enough. The South was considered the masters when all rights and freedom was taken from the African Americas. The modern of institute slave history existed when this rule took place. It debouched black women, men and kids lives for about 245 years.

Although people may think racism doesn't existed anymore, it does. Being African American I know that we don't get the same oppurtunities as a white person. So yes, #BlackLivesMatter that doesn't mean we are overlooking people of none color lives and saying that they don't matter but this hash tag is symbolizing the pride that we do have as culture and for others to not over-look the equality that is still going on in America today.

On The Media: Week One

The president of the United States claimed that his inauguration crowd stretched to the Washington monument, also saying he had no conflict with the intelligence community both where lies. Trump not only told lies about that but he even lied about the weather. Secretary Sean Spicer held a press conference talking about the media and how the administration is looked at differently by the media. He was accusing the media of challenging the president, prior to that being said he threatened the press saying "Im here to tell you that it goes two ways i'm going to make it accountable to hold the press responsible as well." Spicer also was a little whinny when speaking to the press telling them to give the president his dues and acknowledge when he does good things and just don't point out the negative things. President Trump is not the first president who has been struggling with the press for his first weeks in office. They did a content analysis of a few presidents, H.W Bush, Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton. None of these presidents where successful when it came to the press, television and prints such as newspapers etc. Trump is just not use to the criticism that comes with being the president of the United States, he has to learn how to brush things off and do his job in a correct manner.

Well Informed: Education

Sugata Mitra who presented a TED talk called  "Build a school in a cloud" talks about how our education can use technology. He demonstrated how children can learn from each other instead of hands on teaching. Children will be able to log into a "cloud" that has other students and tutors that can guide them in a right direction for educational stuff they don't understand. This concept will be different on how our education is set up now because it uses the concept of self learning. The dangerous part about this concept is that it can be utilized for good purposes but if children abuse it then they will not be learning much from this concept. I like this view by Sugata because it focuses more on a individual learning then a group learning. Our educational system now focuses on standardized learning and judges a student by a test score. Everyones learns differently but we still have this system that uses test scored to move a student to the next grade. In the TED talk by Ken Robinson "Bring on the Learning Revolution" accentuate on how we need to focus more on individualized learning the standardized learning. I agree with Ken what I like most about his understanding is that he talks about if we can take these different learning approaches that we know and shift them all into one that can help everyone then that will be better for our education system. someone that has this authority can make these changes into effect. We have the technology to make these changes immediately but I believe that we are so use to this process that we have now people will over look these views and won't take to time to put them in effect.
